Ok, so I was going to go through all that work to change Dots wig, and now I am wondering if I could actually paint it instead. It would be cheaper to do although I still want to try a full size custom somebody at somepoint...back to Dot, what I would like to know is it possible to paint her hair with no shine to it? I assume the sealant is giving most of them a sheen and while its beautiful on many, Dot will stay original other than hair color so shes not a princess or frilly type girly. Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest acrylic paint and you can seal with Matte Mod Podge so it won't be shiny. However, Mod Podge is only water resistant, so I use Testor's Matte Sealant because it's waterproof, it comes in a spray paint can in the model section of craft stores like Michael's and when it dries you'd never know it was sealed. It looks fantastic.
Hope to see your dolly's new hair soon!

any acrylic paint, sealed or not, will simply scratch off when the doll is played with. even if you put her head in a bead blaster and ruffed the surface to give the paint something to actually grab onto, it will still come off. I do not paint any of my customs, I dye them

Thank you both for the suggestions. If I dye the wig, then do I paint the bow? And if so, what process and type of dye would I use for the wig? That sounds more like what I will do, thanks for your help!
