PRIMARY CHARACTERS
Crumbs Sugar Cookie doesn’t simply bake delicious cookies, cakes and pies. She’s an architect of chocolate, master builder of buttercream, a genius of gingerbread. She’s the perfect hostess, always inviting friends over for tea to sample her latest confection or stopping by with a gift basket to celebrate a special occasion – or no occasion at all. Crumbs is soft-spoken and as sweet as the treats she makes, but don’t misjudge her. She may bake a mean popover, but she’s no pushover. Underneath it all, Crumbs has a surprising core of strength and will stand up for what’s right – or for a friend in trouble.
Mittens Fluff ‘n’ Stuff is the coolest character in Lalaloopsy Land because her house is always surrounded by snow, even when it’s summertime everywhere else. Mittens is a winter-sporty, always bundled up and ready to go sledding or skating, the faster the better. After a good run on the slopes, she loves curling up by the fire with her pet Polar Bear and a steaming mug of hot cocoa. Mittens has a mellow personality and is the one to step in during a disagreement and remind her friends to “chill.”
If you have a question about anything, Bea Spells-a-Lot can find the answer. Though Bea knows it all – or, at least, can look it up – she’s not a know-it-all. She’s just genuinely enthusiastic about reading and learning and loves to share what she’s learned with her friends, sometimes going on a bit too long. Bea has a wall of jam-packed bookcases at her house that’s taller than the house itself, though don’t ask Bea to explain the cartoon physics of that conundrum. Speaking of fancy words, Bea knows a lot of them and likes to use them, not to impress but just because they’re so much fun to say. While Bea is book smart, she’s not street smart and sometimes comes up with a complicated solution to a problem, even when a simpler answer is obvious to everyone else. Bea can also get so caught up in the details of what she’s reading that she misses the big picture.
While there are no mothers in Lalaloopsy Land, Rosy Bumps ‘n’ Bruises is motherly enough to take care of all her friends. When someone is hurt or sick, Rosy is right there to stick a thermometer in their mouth, see that they drink their orange juice or bandage them up, and she’s got bandages in every size for every type of injury. Rosy loves bandaging not only her fellow Lalaloopsy dolls but also inanimate objects, whether they need it or not! Rosy also tries to see to it that no one gets sick or injured in the first place, always popping up to remind someone to put on their sweater or not run so fast. She’s not trying to be a wet blanket – though she always has a dry one handy if someone’s starting to shiver. She just cares very much about her friends and wants them to be safe.
Jewel Sparkles may not be an actual princess, but she carries herself with grace and poise, and she’s a natural-born leader. You might even call her bossy, sometimes. Her friends do! But nobody minds, really. That’s just Jewel. She knows what she wants and, if it’s sparkly, she wants it even more. Jewel is the girliest of the core Lalaloopsy characters. If they had a high school yearbook, she’d be voted “Girl most likely to accessorize… redecorate… or give someone a makeover.” Nobody minds that, either, as Jewel really does have good taste and good ideas. Jewel likes to be the center of attention and can be a bit stubborn – her friends do mind that – but they also know that she’s got a good heart underneath and can always be counted on when they need her.
Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages, introducing Peanut – the most over-the-top of all the Lalaloopsy characters – over the Big Top, that is! Peanut’s house looks like a circus tent, which makes sense since she’s part clown, part master of ceremonies. You never know what to expect from Peanut, and neither does she! Any house she’s in is a funhouse, because she loves to make her friends laugh – with a joke, a prank, or a funny trick. Peanut’s house is even more fun, because she’s got a Ferris wheel and roller coaster parked right outside. Peanut puts the show in our show, making announcements in a loud, carnival barker voice and making everything sound more grandiose than it really is. You can never feel down when Peanut’s around!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and, for Spot Splatter Splash, anything can be beautiful. Where someone else sees a messy food spill or a broken cup, Spot sees colors and shapes and the inspiration for her next art creation. Spot is the most creative of the Lalaloopsy dolls, a talented artist, equally comfortable in any medium – paint, clay, yarn, pebbles, even bandages (“Sorry, Rosy!”) or popcorn (“Thanks, Peanut!”) Her house can be messy because she’s always working on a project – or turning a mess into a project – but mess is her middle name. Well, actually, it’sSplatter, but that’s the same thing! Speaking of mess, Spot loves eating spaghetti, especially when it’s been dipped in bright red tomato sauce that sprays everywhere when you suck it up with a big loud slurp. Spot’s not the only colorful one. Her pet zebra loves to change the color of his stripes depending on how he feels, Spot’s current project, or what’s going on in a given story. Think of him as a mood zebra.
Dot Starlight is Lalaloopsy Land’s resident space case – not because she’s out of touch with reality but because she has her head in the stars, literally. Dot is an astronomer with her own telescope and observatory. She’s always looking out for comets and meteor showers and eclipses and would love, someday, to travel to outer space in a real spaceship. In the meanwhile, she can dream, and she does. Well, okay, maybe she doesn’t always see things as they really are, but that’s because she cansee things as they might be, or should be.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS
While secondary characters are essential to our world, they appear less frequently than primary characters, revolving in and out every few episodes. This group features three boy characters who are also an integral part of Lalaloopsy Land.
Pillow Featherbed
Anytime is naptime for Pillow Featherbed. She’s always dressed in jammies and ready to snuggle with her soft little pet sheep, after she’s had her milk and cookie, delivered by Crumbs, and read a story, of course. Pillow isn’t a narcoleptic, however. She’s an active participant in Lalaloopsy adventures and is a bit of a night owl, which makes her available when Dot wants some company, looking at the stars or talking about her dreams. Pillow has a mellow, relaxed personality and is a calming influence on her friends, helping them relax or fall asleep.
Berry Jars ‘n’ Jam
You won’t have any trouble keeping Berry – or her twin sister Sunny – down on the farm. They’re country girls through and through and live in side-by-side houses. Both are hard workers, though Berry takes on the indoor chores, sweeping up the kitchen, making the beds, and frying up the biggest stack of pancakes you ever did see. In fact, her roof is covered with ‘em. Berry takes an active interest in all her friends’ activities – maybe a bit too active. She doesn’t mean to gossip, but she’s just a little too enthusiastic about sharing the info she’s gathered so, if you’ve got a secret, tell it to Misty!
Sunny Side Up
Berry’s sister, Sunny, loves waking up at dawn and eating HUGE breakfasts. (Good thing Berry’s always frying up those pancakes!) Then, she’s out the door, raking out the stalls, feeding and watering the animals in the barn, and collecting fresh eggs, which are always in demand in Lalaloopsy Land. Berry and Sunny get along great and are complementary in many ways. While Berry’s a busybody, Sunny’s a bit taciturn. Berry likes the indoor chores, and Sunny likes being outside. Like any sisters, they have their spats, but they always make it up by sundown.
Tippy Tumblelina
Lalaloopsy Land’s resident ballerina, Tippy doesn’t literally have two left feet but dances as if she does. This doesn’t stop her, however, from giving command performances – command, as in, she’ll command you to come and watch whether you want to or not. Just wear a crash helmet if you’re sitting in the front row in case she falls off the stage. Despite her lack of grace, Tippy is a girly girl who loves living the fantasy of getting to wear a tutu all the time. And she’s living proof that you don’t always have to be the best at something to get plenty of satisfaction and enjoyment out of it.
Misty Mysterious
Misty’s a magician who always has something up her sleeve. While not, literally, magical, Misty has a way of appearing out of nowhere, accompanied by a puff of smoke. And she’s able to pull her pet rabbit out of the most unexpected places. Because she’s a magician, Misty never reveals her magic secrets, and she’s good at keeping secrets, too. If one of her friends shares a confidence with her, Misty’s lips are sealed.
Marina Anchors
Marina likes to keep things shipshape, even when she’s onshore. She’s super neat, tidy and organized. She likes to help her friends get organized, too, though sometimes she can go overboard and might throw out something of sentimental value. Marina lives in a lighthouse on a buoy in Lalaloopsy Land Harbor and loves the water. She can’t swim, however, so she always wears floaties or a giant lifesaver with her swimsuit.
Blossom Flowerpot
Blossom is a tree-hugger, and a daffodil-hugger, and a worm-hugger (and, no, this doesn’t gross her out). Blossom is most at home in the natural world, and you can usually find her happily digging in her garden, planting a tree, or recycling. Blossom is super-patient and cheerful, with a sunny disposition. Must be all that fresh air and sunshine, although Blossom doesn’t mind the rain – after all, it makes her beloved plants and flowers grow! Blossom radiates sweetness and light, though she also tracks mud and dirt around, which drives Jewel crazy.
Pix E. Flutters
While Pix E. is not an actual fairy and can’t really fly, she has wings stitched to her dress with buttons, she and carries a rope around with her so she can hoist herself up and hang in the air. Pix E.’s just as light in spirit, always floating and flitting about and looking on the bright side. She’s a wishful thinker, but for good reason. She’s so positive about everything that she often finds a way to turn her vision into reality. Pix E. doesn’t have real fairy dust, but she often sprinkles glitter on things, simply because she thinks they look better that way. She and Jewel share a love of sparkle, as well as super-girliness. Pix E.’s pet firefly also adds a glow whenever he’s around.
Prairie Dusty Trails
Prairie is a rowdy buckaroo who’s always ready to gitty up ‘n’ go! She loves square dancing, doing rope tricks, and riding off into the sunset. She’s fearless about jumping into new or possibly perilous situations, and is just as fearless about hugging her pet cactus. While there are no bucking broncos in Lalaloopsy Land, Prairie can ride the rushing rapids in a runaway rowboat or rope a giant snowball rolling down the hill. Prairie gets a rush from the excitement – and doesn’t mind showing off a little. It’s the rodeo cowgirl in her.
Ember Flicker Flame
Sewn from a firefighter’s uniform, Ember is Lalaloopsy Land’s bravest. While there are never any fires in Lalaloopsy Land other than the ones in Crumbs’ oven, Ember is always ready with her ladder and hose to save the day. She’ll climb a tree to rescue Jewel’s Persian Cat, or brave a rickety bridge to rescue a friend stranded above an abyss. Ember can display a fiery temper, maybe due to her love of spicy barbeque, but this is what fuels her tremendous courage, and she’s always willing to admit when she’s wrong.
Charlotte Charades
Charlotte doesn’t talk, but she has a lot to say. A natural mime, she chooses to express herself through body movements and facial expressions and has no trouble making herself heard. Charlotte’s powers of imagination – and her skills at miming – are so strong, she can make others see what she sees, even her invisible pet, which she walks on the end of a leash attached to a collar. Because she doesn’t speak – or interrupt – she’s a particularly good listener, someone in whom the other Lalaloopsy dolls can confide. As a running gag on the series, every once and a while it will seem as if Charlotte is about to say something but, just before she does, that moment will be interrupted, i.e. an O.S. horn will blast loudly, or someone else will come running up, breathless, to announce an emergency that requires everyone’s immediate attention.
Pickles B.L.T.
A wise-cracking, gum-snapping waitress on roller skates, Pickles B.L.T. will deliver whatever you need super fast. Pickles B.L.T. moves fast, thinks fast and talks fast. To save time, she likes to abbreviate words, not just BLT or B&B (bread and butter) but whatever suits the moment, i.e. MSS (Marina’s ship is sinking!) or MMDAWCFH (Misty Mysterious disappeared, and we can’t find her!).
Patch Treasurechest
Patch may not be an actual pirate, but he wears an eye patch and has sailed all over Lalaloopsy Land – the watery part, anyway. Most of the places he’s visited he reached by accident. He’s never been able to read a map because they look the same to him right side up as upside down. Maybe it’s the eye patch. He’ll dig anyplace he sees an X, which can cause Bea some problems while she’s writing the alphabet on the blackboard. But Patch has no trouble spotting treasure, and everything’s treasure to him: coins, jewels, and anything shiny, of course, but also paperclips, bits of string, rubber bands, pretty much anything you’d find in a little boy’s pocket. Patch collects ‘em all and never gets rid of ‘em. Patch is a clutterbug whose vast collections may be valuable only to him. Patch lives on a ship which ran aground, which is a good thing as it was leaking, anyway.
Ace Fender Bender
Ace Fender Bender is Lalaloopsy Land’s resident mechanic. He can fix a car but is also able to fix anything mechanical, like Crumbs’ toaster or Tippy’s gramophone. Or, at least, he’ll take them apart, but he doesn’t always put them back together again. It’s not that he’s lazy or incompetent. He’s just so fascinated by the way things work that he gets caught up and loves to study the individual pieces. Or, he might sometimes figure out a better way to make things work and put them back together in a new way, which is usually a visual surprise.
Forest Evergreen
Forest Evergreen is a real outdoorsman, who loves climbing trees, stomping around in his boots, and pouring maple syrup on everything!!! It’s a good thing he’s around, or Berry’s pancakes wouldn’t be half as delicious. Forest lives out in the woods, far from the other Lalaloopsy dolls, and he likes it that way. He’s a lone wolf, though he can always be counted on when someone needs his help.
EVEN MORE CHARACTERS
While not quite a cast of thousands, there are lots of other Lalaloopsy characters who will appear in future episodes. Many are themed to holidays, like Cotton Hoppalong (Easter), Candy Broomsticks (Halloween), and Holly Sleighbells (guess!). There’s a whole separate neighborhood in Lalaloopsy Land themed to fairy tales and nursery rhymes, populated by characters such as Little Bah Peep, Tuffet Miss Muffet, and Cinder Slippers. There are the Lalaloopsy Littles – the primary Lalaloopsy girls’ little siblings - each of whom has her own pet - and many, many more. Eventually, we will meet them all.
