Which ones are being retired? ETA: Oh, never mind. Saw the checklist on the website. So both glitters, the 2 babies, Super BB and Center Stage are now retired. Why in the world didn't they just make people happy and make the whole case the ones we're missing? So many people are angry about this after being told they were all out. The new ones were probably already on their way to stores when they made that announcement. IMHO they could have avoided the whole messiness if they were just upfront from the beginning instead of just assuming people will expect it since not everyone who came into LOL were seasoned blind bag collectors. A simple line of "not all characters available in wave 1" on the checklist would have been sufficient.

It depends on the blind bag type. I've collected several kinds and only a certain few do this nonsense with not putting them all out at once. It's actually much less typical a method, so you can be plenty "seasoned" and still not expect it.
They're going to have a lot of angry people on their hands if people start buying more of these and get more repeats. I hope they were at least smart enough to put a couple of each missing regular character in the case. I can only imagine the rage of the people I've seen way overpaying for unopened balls on ebay if they turn up with a bunch of repeats!
I just paid $30 for Glitter Queen, but I think she's worth it. I love neon and Diva was my fave from the first wave, and Glitter is like neon Diva. I'm going to be paying more than retail buying them on ebay, but I'm also not turning up a bunch of doubles. We don't even know if there's one of each missing ball in a case of 18!

It's actually much less typical a method, so you can be plenty "seasoned" and still not expect it. It's mostly the ones that have more than 25 to a set that release them in waves. When a set is small it's no problem to release them all at once and if you get a full case you are pretty much guaranteed a full set unless there are rare chases. Monster High had way too many so they released their Minis in like 4 waves but they had codes so we could tell. I have no problems with releasing in waves but they should have been upfront abut it. I'm sure lots of people would have stopped once they got all the ones being retired and waited for wave 2 to try and complete their collection.

I think part of the problem was that there actually aren't that many LOLs. They have 26 and they debuted in a case of 36, so I think people, myself included, figured there'd be at least one each of the regular characters in there. I didn't think they'd have all 6 exclusive balls in every box of 36, but I did think the full set of regulars would be there. If they'd come out in the cases of 18 first, like they did everywhere but Target, I might have thought they weren't all out at once, but I'm not sure. 26 really isn't that many to split up into two.

No it isn't that many characters but most of them have 2 water feature variations. That's why there are 2 sticker spots beneath a lot of them. They are counting each of these variations as a separate doll even tho who is really going to try and get each water feature instead of just one of each character. I do wonder if those cases of 36 contained the whole of wave 1 but nobody was going to do a full case opening when the cost of the case was almost $300 and they were hard to find to boot.

Honestly, to release a full case of only the characters that were missing from Wave 1 wouldn't have been a good option that pleased everyone either. If you look the comments under the announcement of the retirement of those few characters from Wave 1, you'll see a good number of people who are unhappy because they have not even as yet, been able to find LOL Surprise in their stores AT ALL. Let alone, complete the whole Wave 1 collection.

Wow, that's nuts. Maybe they should have done what they did, but also offered a boxed set of the missing ones to help those that overpaid trying to find the so-called complete set they were told was out. Then people that wanted to blind could blind and those of us not wanting more doubles we've already had eight doubles of could buy the set.
If I had never found them in my area though, I would have grabbed them all on ebay by now. I've seen most of them go pretty cheap. It's better than waiting for something your area may never get.

I'd love to see this brand get out of all-blind packaging for future series. We need options like packs, playsets.

Yeah, I do like the peeling, but they could let you know who's inside. Outfit packs and sets would be cute, too.

Well, here's how well we did on getting the new ones by picking up a box with 9 of them left in it...

I'm very envious of Rocker, because she's by far my fave, but this is exactly why I'm just buying off ebay. Nine balls and only 3 new ones and now if you get another case, you could easily just get a bunch of doubles again. I'm not playing that game. Not that I can even find a single ball in my area to try, but I'd rather overpay for the ones I need than buy double after double to unload.
I'm negotiating a deal for Rocker, Pet and Leading Baby, and with Glitter Queen incoming, that just leaves Cosmic. I'm not sold on the mini babies, although I haven't seen them yet.
I'm just glad this will be done soon. I know what to expect from another series with the stupid way they release them, but I might just stick to ebay for my purchases.

I've been keeping an eye on eBay and out of the few I was missing from the first wave, all but one have popped up on there.
If there is a second series at some point, I think I know how to approach collecting rather than just picking up one or two from different places.

Hi, I am new to the board and am thrilled to learn more about these LOL Surprise Dolls. My kids had fun trying to collect but it is getting too expensive and of course they are nowhere to be found in my area. I am glad to read the posts here so that at least I found out that there are a few that are retired. Like some that have posted, I will probably try to buy some on eBay if the girls want to complete the ones they don't have. Although I flinched at the prices I see on eBay, buying duplicates has made me realize that I could have gotten ones they wanted cheaper that way instead of buying a "new ball" each time we went out. Now they are not to be found anywhere around me, however, they could be on their way to stores soon?
We still need Glitter Queen, Queen Bee and Cosmic Queen. We have not seen Teacher's Pet, Hoops MVP, Leading Baby and Miss Baby. We have not found or seen any of the Lil babies. They have eluded us thus far. I may check out our local flea markets this summer to see if any show up on vendors' tables. Thank you for this board, I'll keep checking to learn more about the LOL Surprise dolls and I look forward to finding our missing ones without draining the wallet too much. Ivy P.

Okay, so we were hoping to find the second wave soon and so they came in last week to our local Walmart and Toys R Us. Target has not restocked since they ran out in January. We usually wait until Sunday to go to stores and lo and behold, the Walmart ones went in a flash, we found one ball. We went to TRU and they had 3 balls left so we bought them. So we ended up with two duplicates and lucky enough to get Teacher's Pet and Queen Bee. Although the blind packs add a level of excitement especially when there is so much to unwrap, it is becoming a drag to get so many duplicates. We only started collecting a little while ago and thus far we have 3 Roller Skaters, duplicates of Mer Baby, Super B.B., Diva, Royal Highney, and Baby Cat. We are on the hunt for Majorette, Rocker, Surfer Babe, Hoops M.V.P, Leading Baby and Miss Baby. We have no Babies and only Queen Bee from the Glitterati club. eBay will probably be he way to go for the Glitter ones and the babies and perhaps some of the others that we haven't had a chance to find. WE are going to continue hunting until we can't take another duplicate! IvyP.

Walmart got new LOLs but they are selling them for $9.88 a much higher price than last time around. They used to be $7.92. TRU sells them for $9.99 but they give you points and then send you rewards. I guess I will continue to buy them from TRU.

I actually saw them restocked today at Target and you are right, they went up to 9.99 too! They did not have the Wave 2 of series I, just the Wave I. I did not buy any because I was afraid of getting more duplicates.

My girls love to switch their outfits which adds to the play value, but it would be nice to get some other outfits for the LOL Surprise dolls.

I'm wondering if there are some LOLs that are more plentiful than others? My girls have at least 3 of MerBaby and 3 Roller Sk8r. Still looking for the Glitterati. We are probably going to try eBay or an upcoming doll show in a few weeks to see if anyone there has some to sell. The girls have so much fun with these dolls and they don't mind the duplicates, we have a little tikes dollhouse that we got at a yard sale that they use to display and keep their LOLs. We have those gigantic balls in a closet because they just take up so much space. Anyone have another way to display your LOLs?
