Banana had a school assignment to create a "shoebox float" for their class Mardi Gras parade. Here's what she came up with ...

Mardi Gras seems a bit inappropriate for young kids, but I guess most of them aren't really aware of what goes on. Regardless, she did a good job; I especially like the use of beads. And pancakes are always a nice touch. Heh.

It looks fantastic! I bet the kids will have a great time with their shoebox parade. Banana's float has some awesome height - I expect it will be one of the coolest floats there!

Thanks everyone! ;D The class Mardi Gras parade was lots of fun, with other floats featuring Littlest Pet Shop, Zhu Zhu Pets and Squinkies, just to name a few! So the toy themes were popular, but Banana's was the only lala float. And she got lots of kudos from her friends for actually painting the dolls and pets. haha zt - yep, Banana goes to a Christian school and since Mardi Gras technically is a religious holiday, they do teach the kids about it from that standpoint.

Well, you learn something new everyday. I've never actually researched Mardi Gras, so I didn't realize that it's a religious holiday. It's one of the few holidays I know very little about, mainly because I didn't even think it was considered a holiday (I always thought of it as being kinda like Burning Man). It's not relevant to me on a theological level, but it's interesting nonetheless, so I'll read up on it sometime today. My in-laws are Christian (or at least a variation of it), so I'll have to get their views on it.
