Wasn't sure if this was the right place to post this but I made a couple of LaLaLoopsy cakes last month and thought I'd post. I'm no expert but I had fun making them and I think they turned out ok. For my sisters birthday... Blank face loopsy was too ugly, needed a Nigel face. And this for my brothers girlfriend, a small pre birthday cake for her since I couldn't be there for her real birthday. I know the "grass" looks like crap, I couldn't get a good icing dye in time and was stuck with the grocery store green food coloring. The end!!

Not too shabby! My wife and I are pretty adamant about not using inedible props, but I think it works well for these cakes (and they can double as presents). Besides, sculpting can be a pain when you're trying to base it on an existing and recognizable humanoid figure. This makes me want to show off some of our cakes, but the pictures are all stuck on my old dead hard drive. Too bad 'cause it's pretty much the only area in which I actually have any creativity. In fact, we're hoping to start a business based on it sometime in the future (maybe).
Oh, I almost forgot to ask...did you make all of those candy buttons yourself or did you buy them? I'm sure we could find a chocolate mold for buttons, but it would be so much easier to just buy them pre-made.

Yeah I usually feel the same about inedible props too but like you said, they doubled as presents lol. Originally I was going to have candy mold elephants instead of the mini loopsys in tea cups on the first cake but...I'll just say I had problems and it didn't work out. Had I had more time I would have probably made some sort of edible cups for the minis to sit in. And no sorry I made all the buttons myself, it was a candy mold. This one actually: www.amazon.com/CK-Products-Button-Assortment-Chocolate/dp/B003QP34TK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332978894&sr=8-1I looked for good quality candy buttons but I couldn't find anything I liked. ): If you do find something I'd love to know for future reference. And thanks everyone!

And thanks everyone! Edible cups would've been cool, but yeah, they would've taken a bit more time. The actual cup shape would be simple enough with a bit of pastillage, but coloring/decorating them with edible paint would be a pain, especially if you want them to look real. We once made a pirate ship cake made almost entirely out of molded chocolate and that thing took us about a week to complete. But it looked awesome...even though the Fruit Roll-Up sails were a bit too heavy. We've always been proud of that cake because we put a lot of detail in it (even the gunwales!) and it was 99.9% edible. I think the only things not edible were the masts (or maybe they were...I don't remember) and the bowl holding everything. The thick gelatin ocean would've been unpleasant to eat, but it was technically edible as well. Sorry, this is supposed to be about your cakes, not mine. It's just one of those subjects I can yammer on about. Anyway, I actually like the look of your buttons just fine and I might just get the same mold that you have, but if I happen to find anything better, I'll definitely let you know.
