In a response to a customer question yesterday on the Lalaloopsy facebook page about whether or not it is a "lost cause" to keep looking for one of the hard-to-find older dolls, MGA finally admitted the following: "Hi Leslie, as new characters are introduced, older characters will no longer be available"

I was disappointed to hear about the retirements, but I suppose it does make sense. It happens with most doll releases... I'm very interested to see how high the rarer dolls, like Spot, will be in a year or so.

I figured this would probably happen. It is sad, but understandable. So many people are just now deciding that they are worth collecting, and they may have missed out on a few of them. bananasmom, thanks for keeping us up tp date with facebook. I don't have a facebook or twitter and really don't want one, But its nice to be able to get "the news."

Thanks for posting this. Yeah, it makes sense, since they want to come out with new characters now that Lalaloopsies are a hit. Get your Lalas while you can! I'll bet we might see some retired characters by the end of 2011. (Just speculating. ...)

I read that they were starting off by retiring the first five (Pillow, Crumbs, Mittens, Peanut, and Spot). Did it say when they planned to retire them? I only need Spot to complete the original 8, but I don't want to have to pay eBay prices...guess I will just cross my fingers! Check out a Walmart and Toys R Us today. A lot of people on Facebook seemed quite upset at the news, but it does make sense. If they are going to continue making more and more they have to retire them at some point. Like with Beanie Babies lol. I was sad when they would retire ones that I wasn't able to get but happy when new ones came out!

If you're ever interested in having me pick up a Dot for you, I can. The shipping will make her cost a little more, but it still might be easier than shopping on eBay if you're not familiar with buying from sellers there. I love helping people out with dolly favors! <3

The one we're having a really hard time finding is Bea. Is anyone else seeing her around their areas?
We don't have Peanut either, but Banana doesn't want her ... and all because her personality is described by the word "prankster" and on her favorite show, the Electric Company, the "pranksters" are the mean kids. So she's afraid Peanut would be mean to her other dollies. LOL

This news makes me incredibly sad because my top three favorites are Bea, Peanut, and Spot but it seems like I missed the train. I can't find them anywhere now.

I haven't seen Bea, Peanut and Spot in my part of the world, either, except as minis.
Hey, it occurred to me that they will be coming out with a movie sometime starring the original Lala characters. I'm sure they won't be retiring any of the original characters before the movie comes out.

If you check out ebay, you will see that there are a lot of all the dolls still available and you really can get them for good prices. I see them almost everyday. You just have to be patient and keep watching. Of course the shipping will make them cost a bit more, but those of you only needing one doll to complete your collection might find it a lot easier to do this than to shop all over for one, especially with gas prices getting so high. Retiring collectibles is just good business. Its a way to quickly sell off the remainder of "old" stock by striking fear in the hearts of the collectors. ;D And it works! Collectors will be aware that this will happen to the next edition and continue to buy, buy, buy. It's a vicious circle. Thankfully the LaLas are not that expensive.

hey guys checking out the Lala page this morning (like you do) and they've admitted that they may bring back the old dolls at different points. So they may not be gone forever. and happycandied i'd love Dot but I think I'll wait and try to find her around here. I think my husdand would flip if I spent $80 on a doll again lol

i do think its incredibly unfair the whole release thing, here in Australia they have only been on the shelves for a few months (two weeks before chrissy to be exact) and we have not got the twins or patch and ive yet to see a tippy or blossom though a friend of mine on the other side of the country saw a tippy last week.

where abouts in Australia are you codswallop? I'm finding it easy to find all of them but Dot and patch (he should be here soon) Toys r us is the best place to find them although big W is putting a good effort in lately.
but yes it sucks they we won't get the twins or hoppalong

I think they will re releast Spot because she is so popular. Probably in a new outfit. I am working on a reproduction of her original outfit now. Her original is very poorly made. The straps are all unraveled due to the lack of sewing.

Oooo! I hope we got to see pics lindasews!!
I used Fraycheck on the edges of Spot's dress and straps to stop them from unraveling, but I'm still a little afraid to use it on her especially since I carry my dollies around everywhere, lol.
