So, this is sort of a 2 part question...lol!
Do you think the Lalas will become more scarce due to the customizers? Thats not bad at all, I am just curious!
Do you think Lalas will stay as a popular collectible? I think so and I also think when my 9, and 4 yr old are older they will start their own collections...and mine will be rare when they get older...lol! ?
What do you think of those questions!

I would like to think they will remain very collectible, but my hubby seems to think they will turn out like beanie babies did. Now people give them away to get rid of them. I really hope he's wrong.
As far as becoming scarce, I think some may very well become scarce. Even now some are harder to find than others. I guess it depends on which ones get customized more frequently.

I'm curious to see how customizing plays out in their availability. I always shudder to see a Peanut being customized but totally agree that each person is entitled to do whatever they want with their dolls, obviously.
They aren't the cheapest things to purchase at full price just to make a custom but maybe that's just me.
I think the older ones will definitely get scarce but I wonder how the line will continue to grow. Will they be like Bratz where we get a select few characters reissued with different clothes over and over? That seems to be a likely situation financially.
On the other hand, maybe because they are using the same molds over and over they will keep introducing new characters because it isn't a stretch to just change colors.
I wonder if they will be everywhere like Beanie Babies, that isn't a bad thing in terms of availability for everyone, but overexposure often turns me off of a line.

I think they are a trend like everything else. Some day there will be millions in the thrift stores. Look at the Cabbage patch dolls. They were like lalas and hard to find and now they are in thrift stores galore. I look at My Twinn dolls. Some rare ones were going for $1000 and now your lucky to get $200 for the same one. Trends change. I think you need to enjoy them now and who cares what happens in the future.

Very good point lindasews!!!
Enjoying them is the important thing.
The only thing that has changed for me when collecting is that I've learned that if I like something, for goodness sakes, just buy it if I can afford it because I regret seeing and holding Spot in a TRU only to put her down because they were too expensive to justify getting.
Rofl!

This is an interesting thread.
I'm a doll collector, and enjoy Fashion Royalty dolls and other high-end, high-quality collectible doll lines like that. Some of those high-end collectible dolls come out in editions of only 300 or 400 in the entire world (and I've known of editions as small as 100, as well). Now THOSE are dolls that I would cringe at people customizing, because they are so rare.
There is a doll line I adore called Poppy Parker dolls (by the same company that do the Fashion Royalty dolls), and this year's Poppy Parkers are coming out in editions of only 400 of each type/style. They had a Poppy Parker gift set that was an edition of only 300 in the entire world, and people were fighting over it. LOL.
I would hate to see anything in edition sizes that small be customized, but I've known of people who do it. I'm sure Lalas come out in huge edition sizes, but then again, there is also more demand for Lalas as well. More people wanting them means larger edition sizes.

And let's not forget that the LaLas were made to be toys for children. I think MGA got quite a shock to find out that adults were collecting them.
I recall my first email to them & their reply back with all the questions asked of me. And believe it or not, they have fulfilled most of them, with the minis being the "biggie" that I wanted done! Now they have facebook and thousands of opinions/ideas at their fingertips.
As for price, as a collectible, the LaLas are very inexpensive in comparison. So I agree that everyone should get what they want if they can and just enjoy them.

I got Patch today and love him! I have alot of boy dolls. I go for the boy dolls before the girl dolls. Anyway he came with glue on one side of his face that is lumpy and noticable. Got the run around when I called today. Called little tykes was told to call mga and they said email them. I gave up. I have loads of boy clothes ideas. Not sure about any more patterns for boys as they don't sell. But my boys need lots of outfits. These are cheap dolls compared to the bjd collector dolls. They don't pose like them but they are much less. Mittens and Patch are my definate favorites and I would lala love to see more boys. A black haired one like Elvis would be cool. Linda

I think they will most probably end up a trend here. I know many of the shops that stock them here have had them sitting on the shelves for quiet some time. I don't kw really how I feel about customs. I know it's filling a void but I kind of like they way that look to begin with.

Inkie, I also like the way they look form the start. BUT....I have also really liked some of the customs I have seen, especially teh Blossom with frosty white hair! She was awesome!
Linda, I'm sorry to hear about your Patch having paint issues. I love little girls myself. I had five little brothers growing up! Maybe that's why I can do without the boy dolls now! ;D LOL! As for emailing, go to the LaLa website and find the "contact us" link and email form there. Hopefully you will get an answer sooner. Good luck and keep us posted, please.

I'm sure you guys already know this, but you can take a Q-tip and dip it in acetone, or plain nail polish remover (with acetone in it) and rub it along the excess glue and it will come off.

From the reborner ladies I know, they have said that nail polish remover with acetone in it can leave behind a shine on the doll. I would be careful to use this to remove glue.
I am sure that as with every toy, there will be no more Laloopsies made or for sale in a few years. I have seen toys being a hit for 2 years and then disappear forever from the market.
I would be really surprised if they would be around forever like Barbie is and has been...
Could you imagine them making more of them and forever ? We would need our own storage warehouse to store them LOL

Warning about acetone and nail polish remover: If you ever use it on vinyl, only use the clear stuff. Sometimes it's tinted pink or yellow, and this dye will transfer to the vinyl and stain your doll permanently. Never use acetone on a doll unless it's colorless. Oh, and it will also take off the paint really fast, including the blushing. And now that my public service message is over: I couldn't resist the $3.99 price tag this week at Target for the minis, so I ended up buying a mini Dot Starlight to customize. (I already have one that won't be customized.) I already have one each of all the minis. LOL. The $3.99 was irresistable, though.

Hello everyone, I have just purchased 8 of these amazing dolls today having spent the afternoon with my neice and she has Blossom (I just loved her)! I admit being 30 years old and just starting a collection like this seems a bit insane, but Toys R us had them on buy 2 get a 3rd free! ( I actually did buy 9, 2 of the same as that's all they had left, my niece wil be pleased!), but I haven't even opened one of them yet, my hubbie would go mad, so I've hidden them in the cupboard and I'm waiting for him to go to bed!!!! I only planned to buy 1 as a treat, but when I saw the offer, I couldn't resist :-) I've been looking all over the net tonight for info and found u guys.xx
