Thanks Julie. The My Child is my daughter's doll. It was her favorite. I did save a lot of her toys and now her daughter gets to play with them. I don't have any of my childhood toys either. Gotz makes such beautiful dolls! They have such life-like faces.

Thanks DaisyBlossom! They are very sweet dolls and so much fun to set up displays & scenes with. They have such a life-like quality about them. The good thing is, these dolls are on sale from now until August. The bad thing is, the 17 inch dolls are being discontinued. The creator of these dolls says she still plans to make dresses for them, but the shoes that are for sale at this time will be the only shoes available. The dresses & shoes are very reasonable and well made with lots of period details. The entire doll line is awesome and new dolls & books are in the works.

I've looked online and can't find anyone saying where they are being discontinued. Is it due to safety reasons? I want to make sure before Olive gets her hands on one!!!

The 17 inch dolls are being discontinued because the toy laws changed. They ARE safe and well made, but the company made a decision not to produce anymore of the larger dolls because of all the updated testing that would be required just to prove their safety all over again. The company wanted to use their funds for other things. They have other plans in the works and it was easier and less costly to do the new testing procedures on the new products before lots of them were produced. Since GBH is a small company, they are trying to make the best products while still being able to keep it affordable for the fans. How old is Olive? These dolls were basically made for older collectors, but my granddaughter, who is almost 7 has one big doll and two small ones. She is very careful with them, because she knows how special they are. And I also monitor her as much as I can when she plays with them. If she enjoys fixing her dolls' hair, Louisa might not be the best one for her. The curly haired dolls would probably end us a tangled mess. But the girls with straight hair have really nice hair that is fun to brush & style. All of their hair is awesome quality, but the curls are probably not well-suited for younger children. I guess it just depends on the child, if they are ready for a collector doll or not. I had my doubts about my granddaughter, because she can be "not-so-careful" with some of her toys. So she got a small GBH doll first and then when I got Grandma Sunday, I got 17 inch Suzannah for her. She treats her like a piece of fine china. I hope this info helps.

Thanks! Olive is 7. Thanks for pointing out Louisa's hair. I think I'll get Louisa for me and another straight-haired one for her. She has two American Girl dolls, and I told her those dolls can become very valuable. She hardly touches them besides when doing hair, and likes to set them up in poses. I think she would be fine, but like you, I'd like to monitor play time. She can get a frustrated when putting shoes on and things like that. Thanks again!

I hope you both enjoy your new dolls. They are really special and wonderful. And its pretty neat to become friends with their creator. Cheri is such a nice person. Just remember, you only have until August 31, 2011 to get them! I'd love an update when you do with photos!

Haha, reading this thread was kind of emotionally investing! First you introduced your gorgeous, smiley girls, then announced they were being discontinued - gasp! Then I was all worried that you might not be able to complete your collection, but - surprise! I was thrilled to see Grandma Sunday come home too. Whew.
As I was thinking before I got all caught up in this narrative, the creator and company sounds really awesome. All the world-building she does for them, books, website, personal interaction with the fans, it's so sweet! I hope she's still successful even after all the craziness with the new toy laws.
